Traits Men look for in a Girlfriend Before Committing

1. You Have Killer Sense of humor.

We know how important it is to women for the man in their life to have a generally good sense of humor, but I’d argue it’s equally as important in the other direction as well. Particularly if a man has a great sense of humor, it will be lost on a woman who is too dry or stiff. Furthermore, it could cause tension if he is often funny and joking, and she is always serious and becomes annoyed with his lighter personality.

2. You Value Your independence.

A girl who can hold her own has her remarkable history and can deal with things without the help of a man who will always trump codependent ones. Sadly, a lot of guys can’t tell codependent girls from independent but vulnerable.

3. You’re Presentable 

This is why Courtney Love is still single. Deep down inside, guys want someone they can take home to mom and also show off in public.

4. You’re “Ride or Die” Loyal. 

In other words, guys don’t want to deal with a girl who they feel will “trade up” the moment someone better comes along. They want a girl who will stick by them through thick and thin.

5. You’re Loving and Affectionate.

This is more of a bonus point. It may not need to be said, because a few of the points above was straight back to someone being loving in general, anyway. But, I think it’s important to state just the same.

I know, at least for me, I enjoy being social, and I love having my girlfriend by my side. So, naturally, we will find ourselves together out at events or even just bumping into people at a restaurant or bar. No man wants to be worried about the attitude his girlfriend or wife is going to give to the friend he is trying to introduce her to.

7. You never turn on the pressure

This one is important. Men have a distinct aversion to any pressure, says Daily. Therefore, women should avoid calling and/or emailing him many times during the day or dropping hints about the future. Keep the dreaded M-word (marriage) out of your vocabulary altogether. “Men don’t want to take the pulse of a relationship constantly,” says Daily. “They would rather just enjoy it.”

There is a shocking amount of truth to the phrase, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Girls who can cook a great meal will always be able to impress guys, especially if she’s a foodie. Believe it or not, this one skill might even be the deciding factor between girlfriend and wife material.
