The Way sex addiction can ruin a marriage

Although treated as a joke by society, the issue of sex addiction is indeed real. This issue is further escalated by indulging in fervent sex activities that surpasses the capacity of a normal person. Although many jokingly mock it as having ‘crazy, wild’ sex drive, it in fact isn’t normal to have extremely frequent urges of having sex all the time. This can be mentally harmful as it readily increases chances of cheating, excessively watching pornography or masturbation. So, here are some listed reasons why sex addiction can completely ruin your marriage.

1.Suspicions and doubts will arise

This excessive habit will fall heavy on you as once you start to spend more of your time thinking and indulging in sexual activities more frequently than before. You will start to watch porn secretly or can even resort to cheating if your partner isn’t giving in to your sexual needs. Eventually, your partner will soon be able to figure out that there is a major underlying problem that needs to surface soon.

2.Most don’t believe it to be a real problem

Your partner will be deeply hurt if they happen to find out that you’ve been dealing with sex addiction problems that have caused you to cheat on them. Society never belives this to be a real problem and hence, justifies it to be a morality issue. Your partner will also start to face severe trust issues because they are also in a mentally delicate stage to accept your mental condition.

3.Self-esteem issues

With sex addiction comes, deceit, extra-marital affairs, betrayal and shame that can slowly eat away on your conscience. These actions can reflect poorly on your mental health as these are highly negative emotions that can lower your self-esteem. It then gets really hard to communicate clearly with your partner unless you are really comfortable with them; thus leading to miscommunication and frequent fights.

4.Committing to sex therapy

After being treated as a morality issue rather than being a serious one, the affected person finds it even more difficult to come into terms with their addiction. Unless one decides to treat their problem by attempting to visit therapy, no one can really force them to do so. The initial struggle can be a lot for the partner as well, because no matter how hard they try, fixing sex addiction with therapy can do far more harm for the marriage than that can be fixed.

5.Shattered trust among partners

Sex addiction is far more damaging than any other forms of addiction. Sex addiction includes sexual infidelity that threatens the foremost base of relationships and marriage: trust. Before relying on and communicating their problem to their partner, they resort to lies and breaking promises that can slowly break apart a marriage beyond repair.
